DriveDir ("DriveDir", "we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit drivedir.com or use our services, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using DriveDir, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Who we are

DriveDir is a Nigerian car rental directory that connects customers with verified rental companies across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Warri, Kano, Owerri, Ibadan and other cities. We do not own a fleet, do not rent vehicles ourselves, and do not process rental payments. We act as an intermediary that forwards your booking request to the rental company you select. Our service is free for customers — we earn from a small commission charged to listed companies on confirmed bookings.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

When you submit a booking request, partner application, review, contact form, or sign up for an account, we collect the information you provide. Depending on the form, this may include:

• Your name and the rider's name (if booking on someone else's behalf)
• Phone number, WhatsApp number and email address
• Pickup city, pickup and return dates, and pickup location
• Vehicle type or specific vehicle requested, plus any notes or special instructions
• For partner applications: business name, contact person, fleet details, service areas and supporting documents you choose to share
• For reviews: the rating you give a company and the review text you write
• For accounts: your email address and any profile details you add

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit drivedir.com, our hosting provider and infrastructure log basic technical information such as your IP address, device type, browser, referring URL, and pages viewed. These logs are used to keep the site secure, debug issues, and understand aggregate traffic.

2.3 Information stored on your device

Some features (saved cars, the cars you are comparing, draft reviews) are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This data stays on your device — it is not uploaded to DriveDir unless you submit it through a form.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Process your booking requests — by forwarding your enquiry to the rental company you selected so they can confirm availability and arrange your trip.
• Respond to questions you send via our contact form, WhatsApp or email.
• Operate and improve the directory — including verifying partners, removing companies that fail quality checks, and improving the booking flow.
• Display reviews you choose to publish on a company's profile (we do not publish reviews you mark as private).
• Keep the service secure — detect and prevent abuse, spam, fraud and unauthorised access.
• Comply with legal obligations when required.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising on other websites.

4. When we share your information

We share information only in the following limited cases:

• With the rental company you book. When you submit a booking request for a specific company, we forward the details (name, phone, email, dates, vehicle, notes) to that company so they can fulfil your booking. They handle that information under their own privacy practices.
• With service providers who help us run DriveDir. This includes our hosting provider (Vercel), our database provider (Supabase) and our form-delivery provider (Web3Forms), which routes booking-form submissions to our inbox. These providers process data on our behalf and only for the purposes we authorise.
• For legal reasons. If required by law, court order, or to protect rights, property or safety.
• In a business transfer. If DriveDir is merged, acquired or reorganised, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; you'll be notified before any change in control affects how your data is handled.

5. Cookies, analytics and local storage

DriveDir uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working properly:

• Strictly necessary — to keep you signed in if you have an account, and to remember basic preferences.
• Local storage — to save your saved cars, comparison list and review drafts on your device, as described above.
• Analytics — we may use privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and understand which cities and companies are most browsed. These are aggregate, not used to track individuals across other sites.

You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Doing so may break some features (e.g. saved cars and the compare list).

6. Data security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold — encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted access to internal data, and review of how third-party providers handle data on our behalf. No method of transmission or storage on the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep booking-request data only as long as needed to support the booking and resolve any related issues. Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after closure to comply with legal and operational requirements. Reviews you publish remain visible until you ask us to remove them.

7. Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
• Delete your information, subject to limited exceptions where we must keep it for legal reasons.
• Object to certain processing or ask us to restrict it.
• Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on your consent.
• Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) or another regulator with jurisdiction.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives an equivalent level of protection — through provider commitments, standard contractual terms, or other lawful safeguards.

9. Children's privacy

DriveDir is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact hello@drivedir.com and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. For material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice (such as a banner on the homepage) before the changes take effect.
